I made this Plate Cabinet

I Built this cabinet.

First I cut the hole in the wall.

I pre framed the closet behind the wall for this. I onlr lost 3.5" from the back of the closet.

The wall was a double wall which gives me 11" deep cabinet.

I put on my "Dado" blades to cut the wide joint cuts.

Two inserts might work

Looks good

The cut needs to be a little wider. So I add another wider Dado blade, that should be perfect.

Looks like the Dado slot is the right size.

Now cut a slot for the 1/4" sheet for the back of the cabinet. This also acts as sheer panel so the cabinet will stay square.

See how the Sheer back panel slides in then the slotted top piece will lock in the panel.

Now we slip on the top.

And it's time to Glue it all up and clamp it. All the time checking it to be plumb and square. It will not require any nails.

The next day after the glue dries I insert it into the hole and Dryall mud around the sides.

Now to drill the base plate of the plate seperater grid.

I use a forstner bit that matches the diameter of the wood dowling.

One test fitting before I do the second grid. If there is something wrong with this one I can push it to the back and do a better one for the front. This one was good. When I do the front one I put a 1/4 turn slot on the middle dowel so it can be removed to get your hand in to clean and stuff.

Now to do the frame front. Cut the 45's and glue the frame.

Then add the shelf front piece and glue.

I used a 5/8" Roundover router bit for the inside frame and a 5/8" Roman Ogee for the outside so the frame matches the other cupboards.

Two coats of primer and lots of sanding and filling.

A coat of semigloss acrylic to match the other cabinets. Paint the inside the same. When it dries put in the grids and nail on the frame front.

Touch up any paint areas.

Jeanne loves it. This all took 5 days

3-1x3x8'(Ripped to 2.25")

22' of 1/2" dowling(12"ea)

4-1/4"x 1.5"x2' oak strips (Dowling bases)
