Refurbish & Alter Transmission
It all looks great until I truned the engine and it was hitting somethiong inside the bell housing.
It turns out that the engine is a 1098 cc which is larger than the stock enging so the trans is for the 850 cc engine which has a larger flywheel and requires a larger clutch assembly. Therefore the trans bell housing is a little smaller that the original transmission.

I looked at the old trans which is identical to this one. I saw the alteration the last guy did.
This is my trans. I studied the promblem for days. It turns out that this is an acceptable alternative repair for this situation. It seems that I have some work to do.
My first cuts were with a hole saw. |
I can see where the pressure plate hits. Looks like mor grinding is in order. |
I painred to see where it was hitting and did more gringing. It took reinstalling the trans at least ten times and painting each time. This was the last pass. |
I didn't like the whole open to the weather so I fabricated a plate as a cover plate. I think it looks cool. |
Next step is to install new flywheel lock washers. |
Clean out threads Metal bracket for leverage to tighten flywheel bolts. |
Start to bend tabs. |
Finish with metal flat clisel. |
Done ! |
Use old spline from my old trans to align the clutch disk to the flywheel. |
Done ! |
Instead of rubber plug I made a new plate to cover the clutch throwout bearing lever for right hand dirve vehicles. There is one on each side. |
Now let's make it pretty. |
Nice ! |
Now it's ready and working. |
Which one of these starter motors should I use. |
After painting the starter motor and installing it.
