Refurbish & Alter Transmission

It all looks great until I truned the engine and it was hitting somethiong inside the bell housing.

It turns out that the engine is a 1098 cc which is larger than the stock enging so the trans is for the 850 cc engine which has a larger flywheel and requires a larger clutch assembly. Therefore the trans bell housing is a little smaller that the original transmission.

I looked at the old trans which is identical to this one. I saw the alteration the last guy did.

This is my trans. I studied the promblem for days. It turns out that this is an acceptable alternative repair for this situation.

It seems that I have some work to do.

My first cuts were with a hole saw.

I can see where the pressure plate hits.

Looks like mor grinding is in order.

I painred to see where it was hitting and did more gringing.

It took reinstalling the trans at least ten times and painting each time. This was the last pass.

I didn't like the whole open to the weather so I fabricated a plate as a cover plate.

I think it looks cool.

Next step is to install new flywheel lock washers.

Clean out threads

Metal bracket for leverage to tighten flywheel bolts.

Start to bend tabs.

Finish with metal flat clisel.

Done !

Use old spline from my old trans to align the clutch disk to the flywheel.

Done !

Instead of rubber plug I made a new plate to cover the clutch throwout bearing lever for right hand dirve vehicles. There is one on each side.

Now let's make it pretty.

Nice !

Now it's ready and working.

Which one of these starter motors should I use.

After painting the starter motor and installing it.
