Refurbish Driveshaft

and new Universal Joints

It would seem whenever I think I am ready to install the engine I come across something else that needs refurbishing. In this case I looked at the drive shaft and realised that it has been sitting for over 35 years So I decided to replace the Universal Joints and de-rust the driveshaft.

I decided to use the small scocket pressed into a large scocet method.

When the bearing cap was out far enough I could twist and turn it out with a pair of vise grips.

It just made sense to order new u-joints.

This is the old one.

Wire wheel

Some sanding.

Mask off the bearing area.

Start with some gray primer.

The new bearings

Press the bearings in using the same method I used to press them out.

Looks cool.

Spent time cleaning out and de-rusting where the transmission spline fits into the driveshaft .
